House elects members of key panels
By Khetam Malkawi

AMMAN - The Lower House of Parliament on Sunday endorsed a report prepared by an ad hoc committee to reply to the Speech from the Throne before submitting it to His Majesty King Abdullah.

Parliamentary sources told The Jordan Times that deputies are due to present the reply on Wednesday.

Also yesterday lawmakers started electing members of the House’s 14 permanent committees, selecting members of the Legal Committee by agreement, according to an earlier deal between the six House blocs.

Members of the committee are Wasfi Farhan Sarhan (Northern Badia), Mohammad Shroush (Tafileh, Second District), Mahmoud Kharabsheh (Balqa, First District), and Abdul Karim Dughmi (Mafraq First District).

Other members include Saleh Lozi (Amman, Fifth District), Talal Maaytah (Karak, First District), Ahmad Qudah (Ajloun, First District), Wafaa Bani Mustafa (Jerash), Awwad Zawaydeh (Southern Badia), Abdel Kareem Abul Haija (Irbid, First District) and Yihya Saud (Amman, Second District).

However, a deal to name members of each committee by consensus was broken when lawmakers moved to select members of the Financial Committee.

Some MPs claimed that the names listed as the members of the panel were different from those agreed upon earlier, while other deputies proposed to add other “experienced” members.

This prompted House Speaker Faisal Fayez (Central Badia) to resort to elections and 13 deputies announced their nomination for membership in the Financial Committee.

The House elected Abdul Rahim Fathi Biqai (Amman, Third District), Ahmad Safadi (Amman, Third District), Rudainah Al Atti (Zarqa), Emad Bani Younes (Irbid, Sixth District), Ahmad Hararah (Aqaba, Second District), Fawaz Manaseir (Amman, Sixth District), Anwar Ajarmeh (Amman, Seventh District), Ayman Hazza Majali (Karak, Second District), Reem Badran (Amman, Third District), Bassel Ayasrah (Jerash, First District) and Abdul Rahman Hanaqtah (Tafileh, First District).

The House also elected members of the Arab and International Affairs Committee before adjourning the session until today’s evening.

Members of this committee are Wasfi Ali Rawashdeh (Maan, Second District), Mohammad Halaiqa (Amman, Second District), Mohammad Zreiqat (Jerash, First District), Sami Hassanat (Maan, Third District), Ibrahim Shdeifat (Mafraq, First District), Hazem Ouran (Tafileh, First District), Abdul Nasser Bani Hani (Irbid, First District), Yahya Obeidat (Irbid, Fifth District), Mohammad Yassin (Aqaba, First District), Salah Al Din Sabra (Amman, Fourth District) and Talal Maaytah (Karak, First District).

As for presidents and rapporteurs of the committees, they will be elected by the members of each committee in internal elections.

Meanwhile, Deputy Abdullah Ensour (Balqa, First District) posed a question to the government through the House speakership regarding the independent commissions in the country.

In his question, Ensour asked about the number of these commissions, their merger process and the employees working in these organisations.

Also Deputy Khalil Attiyeh (Amman, First District) asked the government about the brokerage firms case, in which thousands of citizens fell victims to a financial fraud committed by these companies.
