Special Screening of "The Message" in Washington, DC
in Memory of the Amman Bombings

Co-hosted by the Embassy of Jordan in Washington and the Motion Picture Association of America

Washington, DC, February 7' 2006 - In memory of the Amman bombings of 11/9, the Embassy of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in Washington, DC in cooperation with the Motion Picture Association of America co-hosted a special screening of the renown film "The Message", directed by the late Arab-American producer, Moustapha Akkad. Akkad and his daughter Reem were victims of the Hyatt hotel bombings in Amman last November.

The screening of "The Message" aims to reinstate the "Amman Message," an initiative launched in November 2004 which seeks to reveal a message of tolerance and humanity; rejecting extremism as a deviation from Islamic beliefs; thus, stressing the true values of Islam and promoting a proper understanding of the faith which honors all human beings and provides common ground among different faiths and peoples.

"The Message: The Story of Islam", is an Oscar-nominated epic motion picture that continues to be a very good introduction to the Islamic faith, both from its historical roots, and various elements of the faith. The historical epic took six years to prepare and more than a year to film. Akkad also produced the Halloween movies.

The screening was followed by a full hour discussion about the film, the Amman bombings and moderate Islam. More than one hundred people attended the event and joined the discussion. The audience included members of the diplomatic community as well as American and Arab and Muslim-American residents of Washington. Mrs. Akkad, widow of the late Mustapha Akkad was also present at the screening.
