"Digging for the Truth - Lost Treasure of Petra"
A History Channel Documentary
The "lost red-rose" city of Petra stands as one of the
most glorious and mysterious archaeological sites on
earth. It is already described as the eight wonder of
the ancient world because of its architecture and its
amazing beauty. Created over 2,500 years ago, the ornate
Petra cityscape was literally carved into the
rose-colored walls of Jordan's Shara Mountains. The
builders of Petra, the Nabataeans, were thought to be
some of the wealthiest people ever to inhabit the Middle
East, but they, along with their riches, simply
vanished. After being the glittering capital of the
Nabataeans, it suffered a major earthquake and was
completely lost to the western world until rediscovered
in 1812 by a Swiss traveler, Johann Ludwig Burckhardt.
Today, Petra is a finalist in the “New 7 Wonders of the
World” Campaign. The campaign was first launched in
2000, attracting to date more than 19 million voters
from around the globe. Experts have considered 77 sites
and drawn up a shortlist of 21 finalists, which includes
Petra. Become a part of history and vote for Petra. Your
vote can make a difference and help Petra claim its
place in History. It will be recognized as a monument
that has a truly global meaning. We are already proud of
being part of the 21 finalists, since each one of them
is a unique monument that belongs to its culture and
country in its own way.
See this mystery of beauty for yourself. What was Petra
and could the Arabian site be still hiding precious
treasure? Join host Josh Bernstein as he examines
Petra's only surviving parchment manuscript, and goes
underneath the ancient "Treasury" in search of hidden
riches in the History Channel documentary film “Digging
for the Truth – Lost Treasure of Petra”. The film is
scheduled to air on the History Channel:
- Monday, March 19 09:00 PM (EST)
- Tuesday, March 20 01:00 AM (EST)
- Saturday, March 24 04:00 PM (EST)
