King Abdullah Sends
Letter to President Bush
Amman, Jordan - His Majesty King Abdullah II sent
a letter to U. S. President George W. Bush on Thursday,
May 18, 2006, in which he shared his thoughts about the
Palestinian-Israeli situation.
The King's letter stressed the urgency of exploring all
opportunities to achieve the President's vision for a
two state solution. The letter reiterated the importance
of negotiations between the two parties stating that any
withdrawals from the West Bank is welcomed if negotiated
with the Palestinian leadership in the person of the
President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas.
His Majesty added that any unilateral action will have
negative repercussions on the Palestinians, Arab and
Muslim countries. The letter also stated that the
deterioration of the Palestinian situation could have
adverse consequences on Jordan's national security.
A negotiated withdrawal will offer Palestinians hope in
a political settlement and enhance movement on the Road
Map.
His Majesty also underlined the importance of addressing
the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian
territories and the urgency of establishing an effective
mechanism to channel the assistance needed to maintain
the functioning of vital structures for humanitarian
services in the Palestinian territories.
