Statement by Jordan's Government Spokesman Naser Joudeh on the Killing of Abu Musab Al Zarqawi

Amman, Jordan, June 8, 2006 - The investigation and search for Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, from early stages of the operation, involved security collaboration between all concerned parties, particularly Jordanian Security agencies, that helped trace the sites that Zarqawi and his group frequently stayed at.

Zarqawi is wanted for the heinous crimes that he has committed and declared responsibility thereof in Jordan's capital, Amman. Such crimes above all, include the November 2005 attacks that targeted three hotels and resulted in the death of over 60 innocent people and injured many. Zarqawi is wanted from a number of countries for his crimes in Iraq and else where as he is also wanted, and sentenced in absentia in Jordan.

The military operation that was conducted yesterday by Iraqi police and multinational forces in Iraq that targeted Zarqawi, involved a Jordanian security role in the operation. Terrorism is an international concern that knows no borders. Jordan is committed as ever, in sparring no effort in fighting terrorism in all its forms and our security forces will continue to ensure peace and stability for all Jordanians.
